EDUCATION & COMMUNITY

In addition to our concert season the LSO is dedicated to providing engagement opportunities for our broader Longmont community. We especially focus on Education & Community Based Programs for students, seniors, and other underserved populations. If you have suggestions for us, or questions about any of these programs, please contact us at info@longmontsymphony.org or 303.772.5796

ADOPT-A-SCHOOL PROGRAM

Members of the Longmont Symphony string quartet, brass quintet, percussion ensemble and woodwind quintet perform on a four-year rotation through the St. Vrain Valley Elementary Schools. These ensembles perform in over 30 schools annually, reaching more than 5,000 2nd-5th grade students.

ANNUAL 5TH GRADE CONCERT

In January, the LSO performs two concerts at Vance Brand Civic Auditorium, reaching over 2,400 5th grade students in the St. Vrain Valley. For many students, this is their first experience hearing a live full orchestra. This year students will learn about the instrument families of the orchestra. They will then have the opportunity to ‘paint’ the orchestra’s sound by choosing different instrument combinations to play selections and then comparing those to choices composers made.

MENTORS IN MUSIC

Longmont Symphony Orchestra musicians mentor middle school and high school instrumental music students. At the discretion of district music teachers, these musicians will be utilized as clinicians, in sectionals, and for individual or ensemble coaching.

LONGMONT YOUTH SYMPHONY

Longmont Youth Symphony and Longmont Youth Strings Ensemble are committed to serving the young musicians of the St. Vrain Valley and outlying areas of the community. LSO collaborates in support of these young dedicated student musicians.

RAY PARNABY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP & GARY DICKS PERFORMANCE SCHOLARSHIP

Sponsored by the Nancy L. Nixon Foundation, these scholarships, valued at $1,000 each, are awarded to a graduating high school senior who will be pursuing a music degree.

SENIOR CONCERTS

Members of the LSO string quartet, brass quintet, and woodwind quintet perform concerts yearly at various senior facilities throughout Longmont.

POP-UP CONCERTS

Longmont Symphony ensembles can be heard at special events throughout the downtown area and in concerts at parks.
