About Brian du Fresne
Brian du Fresne, pianist, organist, and singer, grew up in Europe and obtained degrees through the University of Texas (B.M. and M.M.) and the University of Colorado (M.M.Ed.). For 16 years, he held the positions of Director of Vocal Music and Music Theatre in the Boulder Valley School District where he directed the choirs and taught AP music theory, guitar, directed the annual musical, and taught Language Arts. His choirs traveled nationally and internationally, and regularly received top honors at regional and national festivals and competitions.
The Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Longmont Symphony, Foothills Orchestra, Denver’s Congregation Temple Emmanuel, the Denver Pops Orchestra, the Ars Nova Singers, Colorado’s All-State Symphonic Orchestra, and many other organizations have sought Brian’s musical services. He was the Principal Organist at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Boulder for 20 years, and has sung with the internationally acclaimed Ars Nova Singers since 1994. Brian holds the Associate Certificate through the American Guild of Organists, one of only seven others in the nation that year to achieve that certification.
Brian has served on many Boards of Directors for Colorado music organizations. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Denver Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and is Convention Coordinator for the 2019 Southwest Regional Convention of the AGO, which was recently held in Denver.
Brian sings with Solis, an elite five-voiced a capella ensemble focusing on the works of Renaissance composer Orazio Vecchi, other Renaissance music, as well as modern compositions and jazz and pop tunes. He is a Sports and Neuromuscular Massage Therapist, and his practice includes work with elite athletes as well as professional instrumentalists and singers. Brian and his partner (now husband) of 33 years, Fred Jewell—a prolific composer and teacher of public school orchestra—live in Thornton with their two crazy cats.
