Borodin: Polovtsian Dances
Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 5 Reformation

Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances is a colorful and virtuosic work for orchestra. While there are countless moments of tenderness and beauty, at its core, the work expresses an ancient, ritual-like virility.

Mendelssohn’s Fifth Symphony was composed for the 300th anniversary of one of the most important events of the Protestant Reformation. The culmination of the work occurs when Mendelssohn uses Martin Luther’s famous hymn “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” to stunning effect.

“With the end of the pandemic in sight, we are thrilled to expand the size of our orchestra to include players that, due to COVID restrictions, we have not been able to incorporate into the orchestra since March 2020. To that end, the soulful nature of Mendelssohn’s Reformation Symphony paired with the thrilling energy of Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances would be a rewarding and moving experience for our orchestra, audience, and community.” Elliot Moore, Music Director
