LSO String Musicians perform Kenji Bunch, an American Violist and Composer. After growing up in Portland, Oregon, he attended The Juilliard School to study Viola Performance and Music Composition. String Circle consists of five short movements: The First draws inspiration from Old Time Appalachian fiddling. The Third is a setting of the classic American folk hymn "Wayfaring Stranger". On behalf of the Longmont Symphony Orchestra, We'd like to thank our 2020 Super Conductor Candidates, Denise Kloster, Tim O'Neill and Craig Mansanares, for their time and dedication to this year’s Super Conductor contest. Through your combined efforts, the three of you raised $10,039.55 in support of the Longmont Symphony Orchestra!

While all three are considered “winners” in our eyes and will be publicly acknowledged from the stage when we are able to safely return to live performances, the candidate who raised the most money will be conducting the orchestra. The Strings of the Longmont Symphony Orchestra are proud to present the First Movement of William Grant-Still's "Danzas de Panama"!

"Danzas de Panama" is based on a collection of Panamanian dance themes collected by Elisabeth Waldo. Mr. Still attempts to approximate the sounds of native instruments, giving the music an unusually interesting quality. Two of the dances (the first and last) are of African origins brought over by imported slaves, while the inner two are of Spanish-Indian derivation.
