The Longmont Symphony Orchestra Guild is a vibrant and enthusiastic group whose sole purpose is to support and promote the Longmont Symphony Orchestra. We strongly encourage both men and women to participate in our efforts. Founded in 1968, this year we celebrate 50 years of support for the LSO by contributing to its financial stability and by providing refreshments for orchestra rehearsals. The Guild is very proud to have donated over $82,000 to the orchestra over the past seven years. To this end, we hold three major fundraisers:
The Nutcracker Cookie Sale, held before and during intermission of both performances of The Nutcracker Ballet (Dec. 7 & 8, 2019), has become a time-honored tradition. This ever-popular event is fun for all ages, and all proceeds support the Longmont Symphony Orchestra.
The Pops Concert Dessert Social is held before the Pops Concert on May 9, 2020. This event features cobblers, bar cookies, brownies, carrot cake and ice cream. Desserts are $5; drinks are $1. It is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy dessert with other music lovers.
“Festival of Flowers” Garden Tour, held in June each year (click for more info).
Mabel Durning Legacy
In 1977 Mabel Durning was the inspiration for, and general chairperson of, the first annual Longmont Symphony Guild Garden Tour. Ms. Durning’s hope was that it would become a Longmont tradition when she said, “Garden tours have been very successful in other cities, and we are enthusiastic about the possibility of making this something that people will look forward to every year.” Besides the Garden Tour, Ms. Durning’s legacy lives on in the endowment she provided that is used to purchase stage flowers for one or more orchestra performances each season. Her own words said it best: “Flowers and music―a wonderful combination.”
Donations can be made to the Mabel Durning Flower Fund, with a check made out to the Longmont Symphony Guild and sent to: PO Box 74, Longmont, CO 80502.
