Opening Night – Happy Birthday, Lenny!

Saturday, October 6, 2018―7:30 PM
Vance Brand Civic Auditorium
Elliot Moore, conductor

SHOSTAKOVICH  Festive Overture
BERNSTEIN  Chichester Psalms
Longmont Chorale, Scott Hamlin, artistic director
Wade Hartrick, boy soprano
MAHLER  Symphony No. 1, “Titan”

Our journey begins with a celebration of Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday and some of the composers whose music he championed, including Shostakovich and Mahler. Mahler’s First Symphony, “Titan,” completes the composer’s journey of love and loss and ultimate triumph – that he began with his autobiographical song cycle, Songs of a Wayfarer.
